A group, Sunshine Grassroots Network (SGN), representing members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ondo State, has commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for ensuring their smooth transition into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group, whose members formally defected to the APC on Monday, attributed the decisive move to the persuasive efforts of Tunji-Ojo, stressing the minister’s role in initiating the dialogue that convinced them to join the ruling party.
While also emphasising that the assurance of Aiyedatiwa has proven that the APC is a home for all, the group equally hailed the governor for his personal involvement.
Among the defectors is Dayo Awude, a former Commissioner and former State Vice Chairman of the PDP as well as the Deputy Governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the last governorship election in Ondo State.
In a statement issued by its coordinator, Awude, and secretary, Olu Egbodofo, the group commended Aiyedatiwa for personally receiving them and for his support towards the success of their defection.
While citing his alignment with the progressive ideals and developmental agenda of the current administration, Awude said, “I have joined the APC to add value, and I assure Mr Governor that he will see it.
“I urge all our party faithful to return to their units and wards to fully integrate themselves. I am here for progress, to support President Bola Tinubu and to support the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.”
On Tunji-Ojo’s efforts, the group praised him for his “encouragement and immense support”, describing him as “a performing minister and a good ambassador” of the state.
With the group also hailing the strides of the APC chairman in the state, Ade Adetimehin, stated that the party under his watch has witnessed enormous growth.
“To the generality of our brothers and sisters in the APC, we say thank you. God bless you all.”
