The Northern Political Consultative Group convened in Abuja on Sunday, October 22 to talk about the looming challenges facing Northern Nigeria today. Starting with the North’s poverty rate, a former Senate President, David Mark, has declared Nigeria is the architect of its misfortunes, particularly its deep insecurity and stagnation. He has criticized the northern region for not forming a comprehensive vision that connects with its culture and religion. He said he had no intention of changing anything. “We must first admit that we are the architects of our problems. We must stop the blame game if we truly and genuinely want to find a lasting solution,” he said. Mark stressed that Nigeria should not be seen as an institution, but as one with a vision that does not exist. Mark also pointed to the declining African Development Rate, the growth rate, the impact of corruption, and the development of African nations. “This is not the North that we inherited,” Mark said. He also pointed out that Nigeria is experiencing the most severe recession ever recorded in history. “We must learn from our mistakes and learn from them,” Mark said.
